“Lona!” James walked into her office, which was an absolute mess. “Yes, James?” She replied, not taking her eyes off her notebook. “We need that cure for the serum, y’know.” He said, leaning against a filing cabinet. “Don’t touch anything.” Lona said annoyedly. James got off the cabinet, chuckling softly. “It’s a work in progress, James. Not something done in a day.””Figured, since it’s been about two months.” James said, a smirk crossing his face. Lona sighed. “1101, get James the vial, if you please.” A small bladed spider climbed onto James’s shoulder. “Jeez! Remind me why you chose a spider to be your assistant?” James exclaimed, taking the vial from 1101 gingerly. “He’s an old friend, James. You can't leave your friends behind. Or lock them in a room for three months.” She turned to look at him, her eyes half-closed. “Have you slept?” James asked, not looking concerned. “When you don’t sleep, it affects your performance.””No, James. I haven’t slept. I haven’t slept in a few months, thank you.” 1101 jumped onto her shoulder, cuddling under her hair. “Seriously, that thing’s creepy.” James said, gesturing towards the spider. “He’s just as tired as I am.” Lona responded, turning back to her paper. “What’cha working on?” James said, striving over to her. His cane made a soft clicking noise every time he took a step. “Nothing important.” Lona said, closing the notebook she was working in.
