Aspen and her older sister, Laurel, were abused by their parents, locked in a cellar in their old house. They were rarely given food, and when they were, it was a piece of stale bread. One day, Aspen found a small hole next to an old table, very small and hidden. Next to it, there was an injured Monarch butterfly. With her delicate hands, she was able to right the butterfly, and put its wings like they were supposed to be. The butterfly then flew off, and that was the first glimpse of the outside world Aspen had ever gotten, and the hole might have been the only thing that kept her sane for the few days after.
She looked through the hole every day, but one very windy day, she realized a very big rock had been blown in front of the hole, blocking it. she tried everything to get it out of the way, but nothing worked. Her sister, sitting in a corner trying to preserve her energy, asked what Aspen was doing, but asked at the wrong time. Aspen was in a desperate rage, and now that her only connection to the outside world was blocked, she finally snapped. Her sanity gone, she strangled Laurel, and when she realized what she did, killed herself as well. Her father, a horrible man, who had killed a few people himself and got away with it (which is why he was perfectly fine with starving his two daughters) came downstairs to find two girls dead on the floor.

In hell, Aspen acts very playful and energetic to hide the gloom and self-hate inside of her. If anyone annoys or bullies her, she will turn those feelings into a bloody rage, which can rarely be stopped without many demons getting hurt.
