The geopolitical landscape of this centers on a tense struggle against a massive, aggressive empire known as Serketius, which mirrors real-world Russia through its immense size and its habit of forcing smaller neighboring countries into submission to create political buffer zones. One of these dominated neighbors is Lupus, a heavily forested northern nation modeled directly after Finland; much like Finland's historic struggles with its powerful neighbor, Lupus is trapped as a puppet state under the thumb of Serketius, though its people secretly yearn for freedom. To resist this imperial pressure, Lupus maintains a hidden alliance with the Republic of Virentia, an independent democratic nation that shares strong similarities with Ireland. Just as Ireland is known as the "Emerald Isle," Virentia takes its name from a word meaning green and flourishing, acting as a proud symbol of freedom and democracy that works from the outside to help its allies stand up against the giant empire next door.

Serketius is a massive empire ruled by a powerful brother and sister duo, (aka a diarchy and hereditary monarchy)To avoid sending troops into the freezing cold, the siblings rely on their region-best navy to crush enemies using suffocating sea blockades instead of land invasions. This deadly naval strategy allows them to starve out targets and completely cut off trade between rebellious nations like Lupus and their allies.
